The Berkshires turns gold and red every year during the autumn months, bringing visitors from afar to take in the scenic views. Here are some of our favorite sites for Instagram-worthy photos.

Mt Greylock is the highest point in Massachusetts being 3,489 feet. More information here.

1. Mount Greylock: You can't beat the scene from the summit of Massachusetts' tallest mountain. Visitors can take in a 90-mile vista across the Hoosac Range, learn the history of the War Memorial Tower, and stop for a bite to eat at historic Bascom Lodge. The summit is free but there is a parking fee during the day. Open through Oct. 30.

2. Wigwam Western Summit: Leaf-peepers can find lots of places to take in the foliage along the Mohawk Trail Scenic Byway, including the Western Summit that looks down into the valley. Dating from the opening of Route 2 back in 1914, the spot is also the location of the historic Wigwam gift shop and cabins at "America's Switzerland."

3. Ashuwillticook Rail Trail: This 14-mile former railroad track turned bike and pedestrian path will take you along lakes and hills from Adams to Pittsfield, with a half-dozen places to hop on and off.

4. Stockbridge Bowl: This picturesque lake is a state-owned recreation area with a beach, boat launch and walking trails through the surrounding woods maintained by the town of Stockbridge and the Stockbridge Bowl Association. Picnic at one of the tables or paddle a canoe and take in the scenery.

5. October Mountain State Forest: The largest state forest offers hiking, boating, fishing, camping and mountain biking. Spend a day or a week amidst the autumn ambiance, take a nature walk with a ranger, or just enjoy the scenic views. Parking fees are $8 or $30 for out-of-state residents.
